Route Description

Starting from South Lake Union (SLU), this scenic loop takes you through some of Seattle’s most beautiful green spaces and vibrant neighborhoods. Begin your journey in SLU, where you can enjoy the lively atmosphere of the waterfront area. Consider grabbing a coffee or a quick bite at one of the many cafes and restaurants in the neighborhood before you set off.

Head east from SLU towards Volunteer Park. As you make your way through the city streets, you’ll pass through the bustling Capitol Hill neighborhood, known for its eclectic mix of shops, cafes, and cultural spots. If you have time, explore the shops on Broadway or stop by for a treat at a local bakery.

Upon reaching Volunteer Park, you’ll find a variety of activities to enjoy. Visit the Volunteer Park Conservatory to see a stunning collection of exotic plants, or climb the water tower for a panoramic view of Seattle. The park also houses the Seattle Asian Art Museum, where you can explore an impressive collection of Asian art. Take a leisurely stroll through the park’s beautifully landscaped grounds, featuring gardens, walking paths, and a large reservoir.

From Volunteer Park, continue south towards the Washington Park Arboretum. As you walk, you’ll pass through the charming residential streets of Capitol Hill and Madison Valley. The Arboretum offers a serene escape with its extensive collection of trees, shrubs, and flowers. Wander through the well-maintained trails and enjoy the diverse plant species, including the stunning Azalea Way and the tranquil Japanese Garden (admission required).

After exploring the Arboretum, head west towards Lake Washington Boulevard and follow the path back towards South Lake Union. This part of the walk takes you through the vibrant neighborhoods of Montlake and Eastlake. Consider stopping at a waterfront cafe along the way to rest and enjoy the view of Lake Union.

Finally, return to SLU, completing the loop. This route provides a diverse experience, showcasing Seattle’s urban charm, historic parks, and lush greenery. It’s a perfect way to enjoy the city’s natural beauty and vibrant culture in one enjoyable walk.
